The Fossil Record of Viverrids (Mammalia: Carnivora: Viverridae) in Greece

2022
The viverrids are known from the entire Old World but their fossil remains in Greece are rare. They are known from only two fossiliferous sites Aliveri in Euboea Island and Thymiana-B in Chios Island. The new genus and species Euboictis aliverensis was found in Aliveri, dated to the end of the late Miocene. The locality Thymiana-B provided the relatively large-sized viverrid Lophocyon paraskevaidisi, that is dated to the middle Miocene and more precisely at ~15.5 Ma.
