Impact of Military Contamination on Quality of Potable Water Resources

Political changes following the collapse of the Soviet Union have caused large economical and environmental alterations in Europe. Among the first manifestations of these changes was the evacuation of millions of troops and military equipment from thousands of military sites. The environmental problems created by the military presence, however, remained in the host countries. Military activities are considered to be multi-faceted point source of contamination not only in ex-Warsaw pact countries but also in most NATO countries.
