Fusion Coding Algorithm of Node Energy in Wireless Sensor Networks

2009
The fundamental issue in the design of wireless sensor networks is to extend the life span of networks as much as possible. The data communications between nodes are the main consumer of energy. Data fusion plays a critically important role in reducing data communication amount and energy consumption in the nodes. In the paper, the residual energy in the nodes is regarded as the fusion object, and based on node networks topological structure, various strategies are applied to express energy of cluster members and node headers, and fusion data. Among which the residual energy of cluster member nodes are signified in percentage. After cluster head nodes collect residual energy data of their member nodes, these data will be effectively integrated. Firstly, the energy percentage expression ways are projected in the same-rank way. Secondly, the weight of each cluster member will be revised according to the information theory. Thirdly, encode these data by using Huffman coding, so that the communication data length between nodes can be effectively shortened under the condition of ensuring the data accuracy. The experiment results show that the algorithm can accurately obtain networks area energy, effectively reduce the data communication amount within networks, so as to lengthen the duration of nodes within networks.
