Design review for power transformers

1996
The Design Review of Power Transformers is held at ComEd before the manufacture of large power transformers. The intent is for the purchaser (ComEd) to become aware of the design characteristics and the supplier of the equipment produced to meet the requirement of the specification. The design review meeting between ComEd and the supplier is held in strict confidence. It is not intended to critique or modify the design. However, assurance will be obtained form the manufacture that the transformer produced will meet the ComEd Transformer specification and the equipment will perform to its` optimal ability. The scope of the design review is confined to Power Transformers with emphasis on major components and short-circuit design. The following items are presented and discussed at the design review meeting: core design; windings design; insulation design; short-circuit design; load loss calculation; thermal design; test performed on the transformer; busings, tap changers and surge arresters; ancillary equipment.
