Ionospheric science in the age of big data

Abstract Ionospheric science is in the middle of a data revolution, and poised to take advantage of modern data science methods that are gaining popularity for scientific applications. This chapter explores the challenges in ionospheric science that can benefit from data science approaches, outlines suitable machine-learning methods, discusses the ways to use these methods to advance scientific inquiry, and the infrastructure needed to facilitate these new endeavors.
