A position-sensitive particle detector with a meander-type delay line

Abstract A position-sensitive parallel plate avalanche detector with delay-line readout is described. The delay line is formed by two mutually shifted bent meanders. The characteristics of the operation are discussed. The position resolution is found to be 2 mm in accordance with the chosen geometry and the energy resolution is about 25%. Possible applications and ways for further developments are presented.
