Miositis inducida por ácido trans-retinoico

2017
Drug-induced myopathy is common in clinical practice. However, the development of severe myositis by agents such as all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) is not usual, with only a few cases reported in the literature. ATRA is currently the standard therapy for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia and is generally well tolerated, with exceptional development of myositis caused by ATRA, with isolated presentation and without association with Sweet’s syndrome. The clinical manifestations are variable, as well as the analytical behavior of muscle enzymes. It is characteristic the resolution of symptoms by the withdrawal of the drug and the use of high doses of steroids. Its early recognition is essential; since only the prompt withdrawal of the causal agent can lead to resolution. We report a case of myositis induced by ATRA.
