Reconfigurable Metasurface for Airy Beam Generation

Due to its intriguing diffraction-free, self-bending, and self-healing properties, the Airy beam has attracted enormous research interests. An electronically-engineered reflective 1-bit coding metasurface is proposed to generate the Airy beam on a wide frequency range by designing two distinct coding states with opposite reflective phase of 0° and 180° as digital bits of “0” and “1”. Both numerical simulations and experimental measurement are performed at microwave frequencies to verify the Airy beam properties from 9 GHz to 12 GHz.
