Accuracy Comparison of Wireless Indoor Positioning Using Single Anchor: TOF only Versus TOF-DOA Hybrid Method

2019
In this paper, the wireless positioning performance of Time Of Flight (TOF) -based method and TOF-Direction Of Arrival (DOA) hybrid method is experimentally compared in an indoor environment, where only the single anchor is used for both scenarios. The experiment was conducted in a shielded room. The average estimation errors of TOF only method and TOF-DOA hybrid method are 18.6 cm and 8.9 cm, respectively, where three antenna elements are closely packed with a half-wavelength element spacing at the anchor station. This result reveals that TOF-DOA hybrid method realizes the accurate positioning with a fairly compact array antenna at the anchor station.
