Sanitärkeramik: wenig beachteter Bauabfall mit grossem Potential, Teil 2

2004
The recycling value of ceramic sanitaryware salvaged from demolition work and sanitation was investigated within the framework of a research project on the recycling of specific material arising from building materials waste. According to a prognosis model for the federal state of Thuringia, it is expected that 2.500 t/a of recycling material could occur. Data can be gleaned from existing structures at recycling operations and wholesale dealers. The properties of used ceramic sanitaryware were analysed in the laboratory. No significant contamination effect on the chemical composition could be determined and parameters for environmental tolerance could also be fulfilled. In the developed preparation technology the separation of these components to saleable recycling products is of high value. In several crushing, classification and sorting processing steps, grains occur which can be utilised according to specific particle size. The very good utilisation properties of the obtained products show many possibilities ranging from additives in mortar systems to secondary raw materials in the refractory industry or light-brightening aggregates in asphalt concrete.
