Using gaming and resilience engineering principles to energize a situated resilience training of front-end operators and managers

2017
Operational resilience is critical for organizations to be successful. It allows for continued safe operations under uncertain and shifting circumstances in everyday, emergency and crisis situations. It also allows the organization to progress by learning from how it deals with unexpected situations. Enabling the organization to appreciate, nurture and improve its inherent rudimentary resilient and adaptive capacities requires an organizational environment providing accountability, legitimacy and a space of maneuver in sync with what is needed as perceived from the operation. This is particularly important when operating in an environment dominated by compliance-oriented safety regulations and standards. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate how operational resilience practices in organizations can benefit from the TORC approach, taking advantage from resilience engineering principles. © 2017 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
