Focusing on Gender and Education

2016
Established in 1989 and in operation since 1990, the Gender and Education Committee (GEC) is one of the largest standing committees in the Society. It was initiated by V andra Masemann - one of her first actions as OES president - who had been prompted by the absence of women's issues and gender concerns within the Society. The overarching objective of the GEC has been to introduce a greater awareness of the role of gender in education in our professional organization. The GEC has grown to become a valuable referent within the CIES, as it not only gives the issue of gender greater visibility and oversees the situation of gender issues within the Society, but also serves as a venue for intense practical and theoretical debates.
