A STUDY METHODOLOGY FOR THE PROBLEM OF QUEUES

This article examines methods of calculating the length of queues forming at motorway toll gates. It is shown that the freeing of traffic lanes can become a function of toll collection times. This reflects on the formation of the waiting queue which could have free spaces between vehicles, thus lengthening the queue itself. Methods are introduced for calculating the length of independent queues, and of those formed by the simultaneous flow from two directions. An automatic simulation method is presented which includes a video display of the development of the phenomenon.
