RESEARCH ARTICLE EFFECTS OF SOME OF THE ECOLOGICAL PARAMETERS ON FRESHWATER CRAB ABUNDANCE PARATELPHUSA MASONIANA (HENDERSON) INHABITING GHO-MANHASAN STREAM, A TRIBUTARY OF RIVER CHENAB, JAMMU, J and K

Effect of physico-chemical parameters on crabs abundances have been determined in stream Gho- manhasan a tributary of river Chenab, Jammu, J&K, India. For this monthly sampling was done and based on data correlation was drawn between some of ecological parameters and crabs abundance. Crabs were observed to exhibit a negative correlation with air (r= -0.51465) & water temperature (r= -0.50615) , depth (r= -0.62443), pH (r= 0.33301), FCO2 (r=-.18454) and Cl - (r= -0.1896) compared to DO, Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ and HCO3 which have been observed to bear a positive correlation (r = + 0.5072, +0.3393, +0.547395 and +0.030075 respectively).
