Preparation and Characterization of Polyaniline/Poly(vinyl alcohol) Composite Nanofiber

2014
Polyaniline/polyvinyl alcohol(PANI/PVA)nanofibers were electrospun after the preparation of PANI/PVA composite emulsion using emulsion polymerization, dodecyl benzenesulfonic acid(DBSA)was selected as a surfactant and dopant. The surface morphology, fiber diameter and crystal structure of PANI/PVA ultrafine composite fibers were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The experimental results indicate that the peaks at 1459cm-1 attributed to quinone ring and the benzene ring C=C stretching vibration peak and the band at 1697cm-1 assigned to quinone ring C=N stretching vibration peak of PANI peaks were evident. The mechanical properties of PANI/PVA composite fiber mats were tested by YG006electronic single fiber strength machine, the density of PANI/PVA membrane has effect on its mechanical properties. The optimized settings of electrospinning were that the tip-target distance at 18cm,the applied voltage at 24kV,the diameter of the electrospun fibers could be up to 600nm with a distribution less than 150nm,the PANI particles could be embedded uniformly in the fibers.
