Effect of Antenna Pattern of Radar on Vibration Estimation for Infrastructure Monitoring

2021
Recently, a way of detecting the signs of deterioration of the infrastructures has been needed. Measuring the vibration state of structures by using millimeter-wave radar is one of the useful methods. However, sometimes the radar itself is subject to disturbances such as vibration when measuring structures outdoors. Hence, the way of removing the vibration disturbances by taking the cross-spectrum of the baseband signals obtained by two radars has been proposed. In this paper, we examined the effect of antenna pattern on vibration estimation with the disturbance cancellation method. The simulation result suggests that the estimation error of the vibration amplitude is less than 1% when the half-power beam width of the antenna is smaller than 40°.
