Figuras de estuco en un chultún en Xkipché

1997
During the 1997 of the archaeological project at Xkipche, Yucatan, Mexico, a mound group in the south of the archaeological zone was mapped. In a cistem located within the group, six well preserved modeled stucco figures representing animals were discovered. Among these is a 57 cm high standing monkey with pronounced male member and a group of figures consisting of a toad and a phallus. Modeled animal figures like this have been reported from other chultunes. The representation of aquatic animals probably is connected to religious beliefs focussing on water as the life-giving element.
