Localization method of fish by using fish call sounds recorded by two stereo underwater sound recorders

2016
Some fish species have features producing sounds, that is, fish calls. Recently, these sounds have been used in order to discriminate species and observe the behavior of fish. As one of these studies, the relationship between the fish calls and the behavior about fat greenling (Hexagrammos otakii) were investigated. As a result, fat greenling produced sounds in spawning season. However, the relation between fish calls and spawning behavior is still unknown. As a way of knowing the behavior of fish, it was considered to localize fish calls. It is known that the arrival direction of each fish call can be estimated by using a stereo-recorder. However, the localization cannot be done by only a stereo-recorder. In our study, two stereo-recorders are used for the sound localization. By using two stereo-recorders, two arrival directions of each fish call can be estimated. Therefore, the sound localization can be implemented by using two arrival directions.
