Application of Fuzzy Control Algorithm to Start a Large - Capacity Synchronous Motor

Large-capacity synchronous motors are widely used in industry because of their advantages. However, it has a complicated structure, and especially it has the excitation controller at the rotor side. In the start-up mode, it is crucial to choose the right time to supply DC excitation source to the rotor winding. This helps the motor may start more smoothly, reduce the stator current when starting, and improve the life of mechanical structures. This article presents the application of the fuzzy control algorithm for the excitation controller to improve the starting quality of the large capacity synchronous motor. The simulation results and experiment results on the sizeable synchronous motor proved the correctness of the algorithm.
