Orbital alignment dependence of electron transfer cross sections. III. Coupled channel results for He+-Na(3s, 3p) collisions

1995
In continuation of the recent experimental results for the alignment anisotropy of electron transfer in He++Na(3p) collisions by Thomsen et al., we present semiclassical coupled channel results in the energy range 0.25-9.0 keV/amu using a one-electron atomic-basis model. Total cross sections are presented for capture from Na(3s), Na(3p||) and Na(3pperpendicular to ), where Na(3p||) is aligned parallel to and Na(3pperpendicular to ) perpendicular to the ion beam axis. The Na(3s) capture and 3s to 3p excitation cross sections compare well to previous theoretical work except at the lowest energies. The alignment anisotropy predicted for the capture cross sections from Na(3p) as well as their absolute values agree with the experimental results over most of the energy range in contrast to the predictions of recent molecular-basis calculations.
