Interaction of Grain Corn Hybrids in Various Planting Date

2013
In order to study the effects of planting date and hybrid on yield and the sensitivity of the maize to viral diseases, a field experiment was carried out in Isfahan, Iran, in 2010. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split-plot arrangement with three replications. Planting date was considered as main plot and hybrid as sub plot. The results showed that only a few traits such as defected plant percentage, contaminated cob percentage and grain yield were affected by planting date. The first planting date had the highest defected plant percentage and also the highest contaminated cob percentage. The greatest grain yield was obtained in the second and the third planting dates. The effect of hybrids on all traits, except the number of row per cob was significant. The highest defected plant percentage was related to KSC 320 and KSC 404 hybrids. Also, KSC 704 hybrid had the highest contaminated cob percentage, and KSC 500 hybrid and OSSK 713 hybrid had the highest grain yields. Therefore, second planting date and KSC 500 and OSSK 713 hybrids are appropriate for Isfahan environmental conditions.
