1,2‐(Hydr)oxy-trifluoromethylation of C-C multiple bonds: Synthesis of β-trifluoromethyl alcohols and α-trifluoromethyl ketones

2020
Abstract Difunctionalizing trifluoromethylation of carbon-carbon multiple bonds has recently developed into a robust tool for preparation of complex CF3-functionalized molecules without pre-functionalization of starting materials. In this context, 1,2‐(hydr)oxy-trifluoromethylation of alkenes and alkynes has gained increasing interest since it enables the facile and rapid fabrication of biologically and synthetically important β-trifluoromethyl alcohols and α-trifluoromethyl ketones from easily accessible starting materials within a single click. The objective of this review is to summarize the available literature on this appealing and fast-growing research arena. Mechanistic features of the reactions are considered and discussed in detail which may allow possible new insights into catalyst improvement.
