HS-OQAM PLC: Long Filter or Equalizer?

This paper addresses a theoretical analysis on OFDM/OQAM based transmission in PLC. We reveal that inter-carrier interference (ICI) may be a predominant factor to limit the performance comparing with inter-symbol interference (ISI) when the channel has frequency selective behavior. Thus, for the filter desig n task, more attentions should be paid on its stopband energy than on orthogonality condition, which leads to the so-called near perfect r econstruction (NPR) prototype filter. However, this sort of filter requires a high filter order. On the other hand, we introduce an ex tended point-wise subcarrier equalizer, named ASCET, to OFDM/OQAM system using short PR filters. The comparison would tell us whether we should use long NPR filter with the minimum stopband energy or short PR filter with the proposed equalizer in te rms of complexity and performance.
