Real-time transient instability monitoring and determination for large-scale AC/DC interconnected power system using synchronized phasor measurements

2015
In this paper, a real-time transient instability detection system is proposed to determine the transient instability using wide-area phasor measurements. The proposed system incorporates determination of oscillation tie lines and real-time transient instability detection. Oscillation tie lines can be identified immediately after the system being subjected to a large disturbance according to the coherent groups of generators and system network topology. Then, system transient state is evaluated by a novel criterion in real-time with the crucial measurements. The used measurements during the post-disturbance are extracted from the huge number of PMUs data updated timely and can represent the transient status of a system. The proposed approach is examined on a practical AC/DC interconnection power system. The obtained results indicate the efficiency of the transient instability detection system for determining the transient unstable status.
