Approaches to radon control and high radon areas in the UK

2002
Abstract Approaches to radon control are discussed with particular reference to the recommendations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection and the European Union. Doses from radon are typically higher than from most sources of radiation and, unusually, while there is a merit in harmonising the general approach to protection, these are also scope for national authorities to set separate Action Levels. As an example of one approach, the development of the UK programme for the control of domestic exposures to radon is discussed.
