Probe into the Application of Domestication and Foreignization in Translating Chinese and English Poems

2012
Domestication and foreignization are two methods in translating activities,of which different translators focus on different side, namely: domestication focuses on the readers of target language;foreignization on the writers of source language. When translating "Expressive Texts",translators should combine the two methods, with either side missing. Moreover, this essay also probes into the use of domestication in transforming "beauty of meaning" and foreignization in transforming "beauty of form" and "beauty of sound "into each other's poems.Furthermore, this essay probes into different methods in translating different texts. Finally, the author emphasizes the retaining of our national and cultural treasures in translation in an effort to improve the status of Chinese in the world, due to the relatively stronger status of European culture.
