The development of a strong and ductile Mg–Zn–Zr thin sheet through nano precipitates and pre-induced dislocation

2021
Abstract In this study, a strong and ductile thin sheet of Mg–Zn–Zr alloy was developed through nano precipitates and pre-induced dislocation. Our results displayed that the sheet was comprised of fiber basal texture and a small fraction of the grains having c-axes//TD of the sheet. Most specifically, profuse pre-induced dislocations and nano-size precipitates were witnessed in the grain interior. During deformation, twinning and dislocations accommodated the strain. Therefore, these factors along with nano-precipitates, texture, and pre-induced dislocations lead to the high yield strength of ~290 MPa, ultimate tensile strength ~366 MPa, and fracture to elongation ~19%.
