Analysis and control of shielding effectiveness for a rectangular enclosure with a rectangular aperture

Electromagnetic environment has become more complex due to the rapid development of modern electronic techniques, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) problems caused by outside interference have become a big issue for many devices, and cannot be ignored. To minimize the impact from outer electromagnetic interference, metallic enclosure is widely used as a shield. Therefore, shielding effectiveness (SE) of enclosure becomes a critical factor that affects EMC of equipment. In this paper, a rectangular enclosure with a rectangular aperture is studied, and an equivalent circuit model for SE evaluation is built via a vector fitting (VF) tool. The equivalent circuit saves time and calculating resource during simulation, and can be used to predict the SE performance efficiently. Also, equivalent circuit offers a new angle of view for better SE comprehension, and is applied to control SE of the rectangular enclosure.
