Status Quo and Research of CBM Exploration and Development

The development and utilization of CBM (coalbed methane) is of great significance in alleviating the shortage of conventional oil and gas supply, improving safe production of coalmine, implementing the strategy of sustainable development of national economy and protecting the atmospheric environment. CBM development firstly succeeded in the United States and has developed rapidly in Australia and Canada in recent years. Early CBM development in China began with gas drainage from coalmine. In the past decade, commercial development has been successfully carried out in southern Qinshui Basin and Fuxin Basin, and large-scale exploration has been carried out in coal-bearing basins throughout China.
