Title: Requirements, Trends and Application Examples for Embedded Computers in Rail and Transportation Projects Target Audience:

2010
European public and private transportation operators are currently upgrading their IT infrastructure on board of trains, trams, buses and around stations, and bus / tram stops. Their expectation is to bring high performance, integrated yet distributed applications based on “standard IT software” into the industrial space of, for instance, rolling stock. More and more OEMs and systems integrators are looking to save cost and increase speed and flexibility by using commercial off-theshelf (COTS) equipment to build those solutions. This presentation outlines applications and describes requirements for Embedded Computer hardware and software and how to establish required communication links: e.g. local within one car of the train or “train-to-ground”, i.e. the link to the central data center.
