Gentrificación rururbana en ciudades intermedias: aproximación teórica y normativa en los casos de la Vereda Florida, Villamaría (Manizales, Caldas) y la vereda Clarete (Popayán, Cauca), Colombia

2019
This paper analyzes and discusses the nature of the process of rural gentrification that is being developed in the Vereda Florida in Villamaria (Manizales, Caldas) and the village of Clarete (Popayan, Cauca), Colombia. The cases studies examined allow reviewing the theoretical-conceptual and normative framework that contributes to clarify from a comparative perspective the rural gentrification processes that are occurring in two intermediate cities in Colombia. On the one hand, there is an intensive residential process that reveals the result of real estate speculation, which implies an increase in equipment, services and infrastructure (La Florida case); and on the other hand, a process of territorial transformation is documented that implies a reordering of the relations between peasants and urban professionals who in the last decades have configured urban-rural processes. Concepts such as rural Gentrification, territorialization and territorial ordering are relevant to account for what happens in the urban-rural border. At the methodological level we rely on documentary and territorial ethnographic research achieved through workshops, open and structured interviews, observations, topographical tours, cartography and photographic compendia.
