Determination of Arsenic,Mercury and Lead in Cigarette Mainstream Smoke by Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry Method with Nitric Acid and Hydrochloric Acid Solutions Trapping

2013
In order to strengthen monitoring the arsenic, mercury and lead contention in mainstream smoke and ensure tobacco quality and safety,a method for the three elements in mainstream smoke was first developed by atomic absorption spectrometry using HCl-HNO3 mixed acid capture from smoke in this paper. The trapping conditions of arsenic, lead and cadmium from the mainstream smoke and treatment method of capture liquid were optimized and compared with Cambridge filter method. The recoveries and precision of arsenic, mercury and lead in mainstream smoke of cigarette were tested with atomic absorption spectrometry, and five virginian type and one mixture cigarette samples were detected by this method. The results showed that: using 10 % HCl + 5 % HNO3 solution to capture arsenic, mercury and lead of mainstream smoke, trapping solution digestion with boiling water bath for 3 hours, determination with atomic absorption spectrometry, the relative standard deviations were less than 15 %,4.89 %-10.25 % for Se,9.58 %-13.22 % for Hg and 3.45 %-8.30 % for Pb,and the average recoveries was 97.9 %,97.0 % and 94.7 %,respectively.
