Synergistic effect of carbide and amorphous phase on mechanical property and corrosion resistance of laser-clad Fe-based amorphous coatings

2021
Abstract Fe-based amorphous coatings were synthesized with Fe44Cr30Mo20B3C3 powders at different laser powers on Q235 substrate at different laser powers. The microstructure and mechanical property of the coatings were investigated. X-ray diffraction and the thermodynamic analysis results indicate the presence of both amorphous and crystalline phases in the coating. The highest hardness up to 917 HV0.5 is obtained at 1300 W, which is about 5 times that of the substrate. From the abrasive test, the coating obtained at lower laser power exhibits shallower grooves and lower weight loss, indicating better wear resistance. The synergism of the amorphous phase and Cr23C6 contributes to the improvement of the mechanical properties. The existence of Cr and the amorphous phase also promotes the passivation phenomenon and improves the corrosion resistance of the coating.
