Infecção simultânea por Dengue 1 e 3 em Itapevi, SP, Brasil

2004
Simultaneous infection by dengue viruses in the same patient may occur during epidemics in whichmultiple dengue virus serotypes circulate. In 1996, this occurrence was reported for the first time in Brazilin Miranda, MS, and afterwards in Barretos, SP in 2001. In both instances the dengue viruses 1 and 2 wereisolated. In 2003, in Itapevi - a town located in the Great Sao Paulo area, another evidence was reported.Viruses isolation was carried out in C6/36 cells culture, and identified by means of indirectimmunofluorescence test, employing monoclonal antibodies produced for four Dengue serotypes. Dengue1 and 3 were isolated, and they were confirmed by RT/PCR. For performing this technique, the RNAextracted from infected cells culture supernatant was employed. The data obtained from the present studycorroborate the relevance of viral isolation for dengue epidemiological surveillance strategies, as it maygive support in determining the frequency of infections with multiple serotypes, and also to investigatewhether these infections might be associated with the severity degree of disease.
