Epistemic Iteration——Scientific Progress of Early Temperature Measurement

2008
Justification of epistemology can be broadly divided into foundationalism and conheretism. Facing their theoretical difficulties, philosophers have put forward foundherentism, infinitism, contextualism, and other theories, but no consenus has been reached on it. The use of justification of conheretism in the field of empirical science faces the biggest problem—circularity of justification. According to the case of early temperature measurement, Hasok Chang reveals that conheretism circularity of Justification can be solved through epistemic iteration in this section of the history of science. Ttwo mechanisms of epistemic iteration—enrichment and self-correction—interact to show a scientific progress of traditionalism and pluralism in the process of inventing temperature.
