Technology and Body Art: An Appraisal of Tattoo Renaissance Across Cultures

2021
People across the globe have tattooed human skin en route for communing diverse ontological, psychological, and socio-cultural conceptions including cultural identity, status and position, medicine, beauty, and supernatural protection. As a scheme for communication of knowledge, tattooing persists to be a visual lingo of the skin whereby culture is inscribed, experienced, and preserved in a myriad of ways. This paper evaluates the attitudes various cultures have had toward tattooing and how individuals have affected today’s burgeoning acceptance of tattoos. It also tries to appraise the influence of technology on the tattooing industry—the way technology is redefining the art of tattooing in strange, new ways and how smart tattoos are used for practical applications in daily life.
