Aging in prehistoric and contemporary human populations

1994
Skeletal aging is widely presented in anthropological literature. Environmental and genetic factors contributing the patterns of aging in past and contemporary groups may be revealed in cross-populational comparisons. Osteoporosis is the most important problem of aging, especially in females. Although studies based on long bone measurements, in this instance metacarpal cortices, sometimes reveals only general trends in bone loss, they suggest that this phenomenon has universal character today and through time.
