Design and development of a low-cost visualization setup for compressible flows

2020
The present work is about the design and development of a simple-low cost system that will enable students to perform visualization experiments for high speed flows like compressible jet flow. The setup is designed with the basic principle of physics of jets and optics. The setup is supported using plywood for stand and mobile phone flash is used as a source for light. The compressible flow used to study the performance of the new setup is a jet via pipes having vortex generators. The camera used in the present work is a CMOS-smartphone camera. The results shows the shock structures present in the jet flow through the aforesaid vortex generator and confirms the application of the low-cost setup developed as a project for jet flow studies.
