Measuring turbulence in reversing flows by particle image velocimeter

1989
The application of particle image velocimetry to a number of engineering flows is described. In every case the presence of high turbulence or reversing mean flows lead to possible ambiguities in establishing the flow direction. Techniques for overcoming these difficulties are reviewed and examples of the authors’ experiences presented. The application of particle image velocimetry to a number of engineering flows is described.
