A Quantitative Study on Energy Saving in Stamping Industry using Servo Drive of Electric Machine

2020
Stamping belongs to one of the most important methods in metal forming industry. The production consumes much energy using conventional press machine. In order to save energy, a servo press of 6300 kN nominal force using FANUC servo system with permanent magnet electric machine was developed to replace a traditional hydraulic press of 8000 kN nominal force. The energy consumption during stamping production was measured and evaluated using different criteria. The results showed that the Energy per Stroke (EPS) and the Specific EPS of the developed servo press was 0.0945 kWh and 15.0e-6 kWh/kN, respectively, much lower than those of the replaced hydraulic press. The Energy Transfer Ratio (ETR) from the servo press input to the slide was 39.5%, at least 25% higher than the literature data. It is thus concluded that the method of using servo control technology can achieve remarkable energy saving effect in stamping industry.
