AVALIAÇÃO DA CITOTOXICIDADE DO PEPTÍDEO ANTIMICROBIANO P34

2014
istoplasmosis is caused by Histoplasma capsulatum, a dimorphic and soil saprophytic fungus, endemic in regions with high humidity and rainfall. While the agent may be present in droppings from birds and bat it does not entail a zoonosis. The animals become infected through the inhalation of fungal microconidia and may develop an asymptomatic, pulmonary or systemic, infection. In recent years it has been a considerable increase in reports of diseases caused by this fungus, affecting different animal species. Considering the pathogenic potential of H. capsulatum associated with the increased use of immunosuppressive therapies and a better diagnostic capacity in Veterinary Medicine, we evaluated the possible emergence of fungal diseases. This study aimed to perform a detailed literature review addressing the clinical, laboratory, epidemiological, etiological and therapeutic aspects of histoplasmosis, compiling data on the frequency of identification of fungal pathogens in dogs and cats in Brazil.
