2015
The
purpose
of
this
study
is
to
examine
ways
in which
Black
female
ar/sts
have
created
narra/ves through
art
as
self-‐defini/on.
These
ar/sts
have responded
to
stereotypical
stories
and
images
of Black
women
by
crea/ng
self-‐defined
stories
and images.
This
study
specifically
focuses
on
Faith Ringgold
because
she
has
combined
narra/ve
and visual
art
in
story
quilts
that
present
Black
women
as empowered,
mul/dimensional
people.
The
concept of
crea/ng
narra/ves
through
art
as
self-‐defini/on for
Black
women
was
further
inves/gated
through narra/ve
inquiry
and
arts-‐based
research. Methods My
methods
for
this
study
are
based
on
both narra/ve
inquiry
and
arts-‐based
research. • Narra/ve
