Study of Polarization in One-Dimensional Photonic Crystals

2003
A theoretical investigation is undertaken to study polarization properties in one-dimensional photonic bandgap materials by transfer matrix method. By altering the refractive indices and thickness of the periodic dielectric layers, wavelength and angles of the incident light, gained the relationship of the transmission spectrum with the factors hereinbefore within optical range (especially in near infrared range), accordingly a polarizer is designed base on one-dimensional photonic crystals. Calculated transmission of p polarization through the designed polarizer is -3.0×10 -4 dB, but for s polarization transmission is only -40 dB, degree of polarization is 96.7%. Results indicate it can realize polarizer with small size and high degree of polarization by using photonic crystals.
