THE EFFECT OF β-DIETHYLAMINOETHYLDIPHENYLPROPYL-ACETATE HYDROCHLORIDE (SKF NO. 525-A) ON HEXOBARBITAL

1954
SKF No. 525-A markedly prolonged the hypnotic action of hexobarbital in mice and rats without significantly altering the toxicity of the hypnotic agent. The duration of hexobarbital action was increased over 37 times in rats by SKF No. 525-A treatment. This agent has equal activity orally or intraperitoneally, the oral route being least toxic. It is active almost immediately after administration and its duration of action is approximately fifteen hours. The degree of hexobarbital prolongation increases progressively with the dose of SKF No. 525-A. This compound prolongs hexobarbital hypnosis to achieve a duration of sleeping time which is impossible to attain with any dose of hexobarbital alone.
