Modeling and Stability Enhancement of Wind Turbine using Linear Quadratic Regulator

2020
In this research, a fault-tolerant control scheme is designed and implemented to estimate and increase the performance of the wind turbine by using the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller. LQR is an optimal control regulator that tracks the reference trajectory at a higher efficiency rate as compared to traditional controllers such as a PI controller, which has been used in the literature. The standard model of a wind turbine with two actuator faults is implemented in Simulink. In order to enhance the reliability and stability of the wind turbine system, the values are considered and the controller design approach is modeled and executed in the pitch system. The system is executed in the presence of actuator faults, which are the air content in oil and hydraulic leakage. Intensive simulations have been performed, to test the feasibility of the designed control scheme, on the benchmark wind turbine model. The efficiency of the wind turbine system has been successfully increased by removing the two faults of the actuator.
