Design of Slot Coupled Rectangular Dielectric Resonant Antenna For 5G Application

2019
Current development on dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) has proven that it can provide large coverage (high bandwidth and high gain) compared to microstrip patch antenna. Due to this advantage, the DRA using an aperture slot coupling fed by a microstrip line operating at 28 GHz is proposed. In this configuration, the antenna consists of a dielectric resonator (DR) with low permittivity to perform the functions of an effective radiator. The DRA structure is designed and optimized to achieve bandwidth enhancement using CST simulation software. Performance analysis of the antenna is carried out by changing length and width of the slots. Changing the length and the width of slot, the results leads to improvement in values of S11 and gain. The results show that by increasing the length of the slot, the value of S11 decreases, while by increasing the width of the slot, the value of gain increases. This antenna can be used for 5G cellular communication.
