Identification of powdery mildew disease on Cleome rutidosperma caused by Podosphaera xanthii in Odisha, India

Symptom of powdery mildew was observed for the first time on medicinal Cleome rutidosperma herb in different locations in Odisha, India. The fungus was isolated from the leaf surfaces and its pathogenicity was confirmed. The fungus was identified based on morphological characteristics and confirmed comparing the DNA sequences of internal transcribed spacer regions 1 and 2 plus 5.8S rDNA. This report is the first on C. rutidosperma powdery mildew disease caused by Podosphaera xanthii.
