EFFECTS OF ION BEAM IRRADIATION ON THE SURVIVAL OF CHRYSANTHEMUM CALLUS

2009
Mutation induction by ion beam provides an alternative for improvement of chrysanthemum. The petal cultures of Chrysanthemum morfolium cv. Lameet were irradiated with 320 MeV 12 C 6+ , accelerated by AVF Cyclotron at Japanese Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), Japan, at various doses ranging from 0 to 40 Gray (Gy). Results showed that the percentage of survived cultures was more than 90% at doses below 7.5 Gy. Irradiation at dose 20 Gy and higher were found lethal, as the percentage of survived cultures reduced drastically at less than 10%. The results will be used for subsequent irradiation experiments to develop new chrysanthemum varieties.
