The present article describes the main results of a study on the main theoretical currents in Sociology which have contributed to social worker training. The research was limited to a case study, so the results cannot be extrapolated to other similar situations. As an innovative contribution, we identified the major dimensions of each theoretical current, which allowed us to delve into the specific theoretical elements underlying social worker education at the School of Social Work of the University of Barcelona over the 1955-2013 period. The article is divided into four sections: the first section explains the purpose of the research, the background of the object of study and the adopted research approach; the second section describes the methodology used (the sequential mixed method). A multidimensional metric instrument was developed to analyse and graphically represent the primary and secondary source contents. The third section presents some of the most notable results of the research, highlighting the theoretical trends in socially indexed contexts and their associated dimensions. To finish, the conclusions are presented in the last section.
