INTERPRETATION OF FRACTURE TOUGHNESS DATA

Problems associated with scatter in fracture toughness data are outlined, and a statistical method is introduced which can be used to provide guidance on how much testing is necessary or how to improve data sets containing more than three test results. In a more advanced form the method can be used to evaluate risk for quality control purposes.
